Gannon traveled to Bloomington to take on the Hoosiers in an October exhibition match-up. With IU thin at guard positions, it was a good test for the Hoosiers to a) get through some adversity early in the season and b) play some young guys in game situations. With that said, after a slow first half, the Hoosiers kicked it into gear. This IU Film session focuses on some of the sets the Hoosiers ran, some of the staples of Archie’s program that were shown throughout the contest, and some ways things can be shored up. Appreciate you taking the time to watch. Please leave feedback so we can continue to make these better and better!
While the result looked similar to all of the other games for the Hoosiers this season, the caliber of opponent was a little different. Marquette came into Assembly Hall ranked #24 in the country, but left with a sour taste in their mouth after getting handily beat by the Hoosiers. It’s very clear that Archie Miller’s packline defense philosophy is fully instilled in his players, as Marquette struggled to get good looks the entire night. Marquette came into the game as a touted as a good three-point shooting team, but the Hoosiers defense held them to just 21% from beyond the arc. A trio of newcomers helped propel the Hoosiers to victory, as Romeo Langford, Robert Phinisee, and Evan Fitzner […]
Indiana’s official opener came Tuesday evening at Assembly Hall against Chicago State. Chicago State is probably 20 points worse than IU’s exhibition opponent – Division 2 Southern Indiana. These contests against inferior opponents are necessary, but it honestly doesn’t give the Hoosiers much of a look against what they’ll see this season. For almost the entirety of the game, the Hoosiers went up against a zone defense, which they’ll see next to none of during the Big Ten slate. With that said, there were a few clips I pulled out that I thought were valuable enough to breakdown in this game’s ‘Film Breakdown’ session. Our hope is to do these for every game to help you go more in-depth with […]
Indiana opened up their season on Thursday evening with an exhibition matchup with in-state Division 2 opponent, Southern Indiana. While the opponent certainly isn’t up to Big Ten caliber, there were still a lot of positives Indiana can take away from this game. In this film breakdown, we go in-depth with sets the Hoosiers ran, important things to note going forward, and even a defensive clip that shows you Indiana’s ball screen coverages. Our hope is to do these for every game to help you go more in-depth with what the Hoosiers are doing. Robert Phinisee Curl I love this play design from Archie Miller, as Phinisee enters the ball to the wing, and then immediately cuts to put his […]
